The Pride of Tamworth Community Awards took place on Wednesday July 7th 2011 at Drayton Manor.  The Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the contribution and achievements of local people and groups who make a real difference to community life in Tamworth.

Awards were presented to:


Business Contribution to the Community 2011, Sponsored by: BNI Tamworth

The winner of the Pride of Tamworth Award:

Anker Storage, Christine Doylefor commitment to charity fundraising

Runners up:

Max’s Food Service – for providing work experience opportunities to service users at Halford Court

Tamworth Football Club and Tamworth Turnaround Team – for their work with schools promoting respect and healthy lifestyles

 

Contribution to the Environment 2011, Sponsored by Karl Beeby, Chartered Architectural Technologist

The winner of the Pride of Tamworth Award:

Mr Horace Jones for improving Lady Meadow Field, the Castle Grounds and river bank by regular litter picking

Runners up:

Friends of Wilnecote Litter Pick Team – for tackling litter hot spot areas to improve the environment in Wilnecote

Richard Kingstone  – for working with Rawlett pupils and families to improve Wigginton Park

 

Contribution to School Life 2011, Sponsored by: Oakfield Veterinary Group

The winner of the Pride of Tamworth Award:

Sally Dickie for dedication and enthusiasm in ensuring access to a wide range of experiences for pupils with disabilities

Runners up:

Barbara Freegard-Foster – for dedication to volunteering at her local primary school

Colin Robey – for years of commitment to Woodlands Primary School as Chair of Governors

 

Contribution to Arts and Culture 2011, Sponsored by: the Tamworth Herald

The winner of the Pride of Tamworth Award:

Denis Riley for years of commitment to and leadership of St John Ambulance Brass Band, Wilnecote

Runners up:

Ian Gibbons – for service to the Tamworth Pantomime Company, Heritage Society and the arts in Tamworth

Margaret Manuell, Shoebox Theatre – for bringing people together to take part in theatre

 

Health & Carers: Contribution to Health in the Community 2011

The winner of the Pride of Tamworth Award:

John and Barbara Wheatley, Dance Yourself Fit for actively involving all ages and abilities in their dance classes and improving health and inclusion

Runners up:

Sharon Fox – for dedicated support and help to cancer sufferers in Tamworth

Mina Kathrani – for the selfless care of her mother and sister

 

Volunteer of the Year 2011, Sponsored by: the Tamworth Herald

The winner of the Pride of Tamworth Award:

Jon Mannion for the time and enthusiasm that he gives to St John Ambulance to ensure that first aid cover is in place at community events

Runners up:

Emma Gee – for going the extra mile in helping with local community activities

Jo Randolph – for many years of commitment and dedication to Tamworth Samaritans

 

Fundraiser of the Year 2011, Sponsored by: Tamworth Borough Council

The winner of the Pride of Tamworth Award:

Maxine Beck, Lucky Stars for ongoing fundraising for a range of charities through line dancing events

Runners up:

Lisa, Brian and Poppy Guilder – for commitment to fundraising for Birmingham Children’s Hospital through the Poppy Fields Charity

Sue Nerney– for tireless work, commitment and fundraising on behalf of the Tamworth branch of Parkinson’s UK

 

Community Group of the Year 2011, Sponsored by: Tamworth Borough Council

The winner of the Pride of Tamworth Award:

Tamworth Amateur Boxing Club for working to give young people a more positive future

Runners up:

Tamworth Sea Cadets – for dedication to equipping young people to be good citizens within their community

Tamworth Samaritans – for always being there to provide listening support for people in crisis

 

Making a Difference Award 2011, Sponsored by: Tamworth Borough Council

The winner of the Pride of Tamworth Award:

TUF (Treat us Fairly) for campaigning and promotion to improve inclusion and quality of life for people with disabilities

Bert Atkins – for his years of contribution behind the scenes to many organisations working for the benefit of Tamworth people

Brother Donal Hallissey – for his quiet and humble service to the Tamworth community and for touching the lives of those he meets

Jean Timms – for dedication to her local community and leading or supporting community activities
